Technical Specification

PEL‘s unique design is trickled down from Paul Beckett’s award winning high end mechanical timepieces. At its heart PEL has a precision digital engine which is located on a UK designed and built medical grade printed circuit board, the board runs on custom software, specifically written for PEL. The board unitises a re-programmable computer which seeks the international network of Radio Time Signals. These time signals are driven from the Global Caesium clock, which by its nature is accurate to plus or minus 1 second in a billion years. PEL has a roaming command which locks onto this signal and drives the mechanical mechanism.

PEL incorporates instrument grade stainless steel ball bearings to minimise friction and maximise the working life of the design. It also utilises the highest specification neodymium boron rare earth magnets, which are manufactured to exacting tolerances.
The optically clear outer globe and the dial hemispheres are hand blown in the UK. All the mechanical components are 5 Axis CNC (computer numeric control) milled to precision medical tolerances. PEL is hand assembled and soak tested in the UK, before being shipped to assure quality control and guarantee longevity, which enables a full 10 year guarantee. This assembly and testing is undertaken in-house.

PEL comes packed in a bespoke handmade box, in itself a work of art, made by the same company which produces all the packaging for Harrods.
The ethos behind PEL’s design and production is to counter the trend of foreign manufacture and distribution, this short-term methodology only serves profit margins. Paul Beckett’s methodology is to support highly skilled UK based engineers, who specialise in very close tolerance work normally associated with the practices employed in the medical and nuclear industry.

PEL is not a mass manufactured design but is produced in small batches, to order, exclusively in the United Kingdom. As a product PEL is peerless, fusing the cream of UK manufacturing techniques with cutting edge, contemporary design to appeal to the most discerning of clients. PEL’s precision, bespoke nature and manufacturing ethos follows the time honoured traditions uniquely associated with the British and Swiss Horological industry.
